2013 was the single craziest year of my life this far. There was a whole lot of change in a seemingly very short period of time. The biggest, best change was the beginning of my relationship with my FDH. We began dating in March of 2013. It took no time at all to realize this was the man God made for me. He compliments me perfectly and supports me wholly. I knew it was meant to be when he agreed to throw me the 30th birthday party of my dreams. I had already decided everything I wanted and put it in a binder for him. He did an excellent job executing my plan…but he had a plan of his own.
He coordinated with my littlest sister to create a play list for dancing at the party. I loved that he was taking this into his own hands. The day of the party went off without a hitch. The decorations were perfect! Every balloon, ribbon, and piece of glitter was exactly where it should be. He put a lot of thought into the guest list. He made sure every person I care most about was invited to the party. I couldn’t believe how well this was all going. Everyone seemed to be having a great time. The menu was perfect…but none of that mattered once we started dancing.
The specially designed play list began with some fun party anthem type songs. We rocked out with my 2 year old cousin and my sisters. All of a sudden, Eric Clapton’s You Look Wonderful Tonight came on. FDH asked to dance and I agreed. After about a minute, I realized, we were the only two dancing. I began to get frustrated because everyone was just standing around staring at us. I had no idea what was going on, but I didn’t like having my back to all my guests. I kept asking FDH why everyone was staring. He finally turned me so we were sideways to my guests. The next thing I know, he was down on one knee.
After a bunch of words I don’t remember because I was crying happy excited tears, he slipped the ring on my finger while I said “Yes!” in between tears and squeals. This was such a special night and I am so grateful for FDH pulling off the best birthday party ever.
I’ve always wanted a terrific engagement story and now I have one.
