Yesterday was my nephew Jack’s 1st birthday. While I am totally late in posting this, it’s better late than never!
My dear Jack,
Besides saying “Happy Birthday”, I wanted to say this….
You are a special little boy that will always hold a piece of my heart. You were a guiding light that helped me through a time of extreme pain. I love you more than there are words to write, stars in the sky, and even more than Law & Order marathon reruns. I promise you an endless amount of hugs and Austin’s dog kissses and snuggles with Magic.
You’ve taught me many things in your short time here so far and I can’t wait for the many things I’ll learn from you in the future. I thank you for not allowing me to experience the difference between changing a boy versus a girl. I fear that some day in the near future you just might have a healthy stream of pee that I am unable to move out of the danger zone. Yes, your mother told me about this.
Most of all, I am so excited to watch you grow up and turn in to the wonderful young man I know you will be. I promise to be there at 2am when you can’t make the call to your parents but I will have to drop you off at some point. I promise to sign your cast because I’m sure being a boy you’ll break something. I promise to attempt to keep your uncle under control when you decide to bring home a girl to meet the family. (Attempt is the key word, no guarantees) My biggest promise to you is I will love you unconditionally for the rest of my life. I promise to never stop bring here for you to help you through any obstacle life throws at you and stand proudly through all of your accomplishments.
