I love a good magazine. Especially a good fashion magazine. Elle, Vogue, MarieClaire are my three current favorites & I’m positive more will make the subscription list.
I also keep them all, in a crate (or two or three) in my closet. They never get thrown out, because you know I’ve marked all my favorite articles & layouts and I’m absolutely positive that I’m going to go back through & reference them all for a blog post someday (or not).
Their glamour filled, glossy pages make me giddy with excitement each month when I open my mailbox & see them waiting for me to read them. I love their travel articles, their fashion, I love seeing the photography of different places that I haven’t had the chance to see (yet.) I enjoy reading them from front cover to back cover, never tossing the magazine in the “finished” crate until I have looked over every single page.
I love to take en vogue designs & fashions & then see how I can apply them to my every day style. Those leather pairings on Angelina Jolie in last month’s Elle that were so expensive the prices for each piece were only available upon request? Yeah, I was able to piece that entire outfit together with things I already owned in my closet for $0 (yes, I have a couple of faux leather items. 🙂 )
I find them alluring & love the glimpse into a world that is different than mine with all it’s couture & one percenters dashing around the world (thinking that they actually run the place.) One of my most favorite pieces was by a woman who decided to move with her five year old son to China so he could learn Mandarin. I’m talking, snorting a drink from your nose hilarious. I’ve learned about CrossFit, politicians (whether I like them or not), new restaurants, fads, & more.
It’s an inexpensive indulgence for me as a mom with little kids; it’s being Carrie Bradshaw without the crazy movie budget. And to me that’s just plain & simple, easy fun.
Do you collect anything? What & Why??? Do you have an indulgence that’s just yours?
